A little further, with a friend.

A little company for everyday walks

Two friends.
One shared trail.

Tandem Trails adds two friends' Apple Health walking distances to one virtual route. Pick a famous trail, invite your friend with a link and let the walks you already do move the journey forward. You can walk apart or meet for a catch-up.

  1. Choose a trail

Connect Apple Health and choose a virtual journey, such as Hadrian's Wall or the West Highland Way.

  2. Invite your friend

You each use your own iPhone running iOS 17 or later and your own iCloud account.

  3. Make ordinary walks count

Open the app to see your combined progress and discover postcards and keepsakes along the trail.

A reason to check in

Keep your shared
Campfire burning.

Walk 1,000 steps to light your side of the fire. When you both keep it lit, your shared streak grows. You can keep your walking habit together even when your schedules do not line up.

Earn bothy nights to cover a missed day, or carry your friend's short night once a week. There is room for a busy day along the way.

A little friendly rivalry

Race, if you both fancy it.

Choose your step-off days. Race on raw steps or use Level it to compare each person against their own usual day. Your shared trail still moves forward through both of your walking distances.

Mischief is optional. Walking earns cards you can scratch, keep and play. Save a Boost, hold a Shield for protection or put a lost day back in play with a Rematch. Cards can change the race, while your real steps and trail distance stay the same.

A little surprise for your friend

Leave a stone.
Make their next walk.

Paint a virtual stone with your finger, decorate it and add a few words. Your friend can discover it when they catch up in the day's step-off. Collect postcards, badges and passport stamps as the journey unfolds.

These are digital keepsakes inside the app. Your next catch-up can include something you found along a trail, even if you walked in different towns.

A small message from someone you know.

For a friend you already know.

This is a two-person shared trail, rather than an app for meeting strangers or organising group challenges. Both walkers need an iPhone with iOS 17 or later, Apple Health data and iCloud. Your virtual progress does not reveal your real location.

Looking for an idea before you choose an app? Try a short walking catch-up, browse ways to stay in touch from different places, or find low-cost things to do together.

Before your first steps

Do we have to walk together?

No. Your Apple Health walking distances add up along the same virtual trail, even when you walk at different times or live in different places.

What do we both need?

You each need an iPhone running iOS 17 or later, Apple Health walking data and your own iCloud account. An internet connection lets your shared progress sync. Tandem Trails is not available for Android.

Can our whole group join?

Tandem Trails is built for two friends sharing one trail. It does not offer multi-person group challenges or a group leaderboard.

Can the app find me a walking friend?

No. Invite someone you already know with a link. Tandem Trails does not match you with nearby people or provide a public friend-finding directory.

How does our shared Campfire work?

Walk 1,000 steps to light your side of the fire. When you both keep it lit, your shared streak grows. Earned bothy nights can cover a missed day, and you can carry your friend's short night once a week.

Do we have to play Mischief?

No. Mischief is optional. Walking earns cards to scratch, keep and play in your step-offs. Cards can change the race, but your real steps and shared trail distance stay the same.

Does it share my location?

No. Your place on the virtual trail comes from walking distance recorded in Apple Health. Tandem Trails does not ask for your location or use GPS to follow your actual route.

Is it free?

Tandem Trails is free to download. Contact us for current download availability, or check the App Store listing before you both get started.
