Who we are
Tandem Trails is provided by Lemar Systems Ltd. We are responsible for the personal information used to provide the app. Contact us at support@tandemtrails.app with privacy questions or requests.
Your walking data
With your permission, Tandem Trails reads step counts and walking and running distance from Apple Health. It uses daily totals to move you along a virtual trail, calculate your average daily steps and score the optional races. The app does not write to Health. Manually entered Health samples are excluded.
Your place on a virtual trail comes from walking distance, not GPS tracking. Tandem Trails does not request your device's location.
Your profile and shared adventure
The app stores your chosen name, colour, optional profile photo, trail choices, daily walking totals and average daily steps. Shared adventure data includes race settings, results, forfeits and the stones you leave for your partner. Your personal daily goal and choice of miles or kilometres are stored on your device.
If you join or share a challenge, its participants can see your profile, daily steps and distance, average daily steps and shared adventure data. Anyone with a working invite link may be able to join the challenge. Only send it to people you want to walk with. Photos are resized before they are stored and shared.
Before a shared walk ends, the app saves a private recovery copy on each phone. This includes your walking history, distance already walked together and earned keepsakes, including received stones. Stopping walking together ends future sharing and creates a private solo continuation in your iCloud account. Recovery copies and former partner records are not sent to a new walking partner. Stopping sharing does not erase information already shared or saved by either person.
Where information is stored
The app keeps settings and cached adventure data on your device. Shared challenges use Apple's CloudKit, in the owner's private iCloud database and the participants' shared databases. Your Apple Account's iCloud identifier identifies you within the challenge. Apple operates iCloud and processes information under its own privacy terms, which may involve storage outside your country.
Lemar Systems Ltd does not run a separate server containing your walking history. The app has no advertising or third-party analytics SDKs, and we do not sell personal information or use Health data for advertising.
Why we use information
We use profile and adventure information to provide the service you request. Health access is optional and depends on your permission; sharing walking totals is part of the shared challenge you choose to use. You can withdraw Health access in Apple's Health app. This stops future reads but does not erase totals already saved in a challenge.
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include. We use this to reply and resolve your request, on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing support. Do not send Health records or sensitive information unless it is needed for your request.
Notifications and sharing
Notifications are optional. Apple delivers remote notifications through its notification service, and the app also schedules local alerts. You can change notification permission in iOS Settings.
If you use the share sheet, you choose which image, text or link to share and who receives it. Copies saved or shared by you or a partner are outside the app's control.
Keeping and removing information
Local information remains while it is needed for your settings and adventure history. Uninstalling the app removes its local data, subject to any device backups. It does not automatically delete a shared iCloud challenge or copies your partner has saved. iCloud retention and backups are controlled by Apple and the challenge owner's account.
Contact support@tandemtrails.app if you need help accessing, correcting or removing information. We may need your help and the challenge owner's help to identify and manage records in iCloud. Support correspondence is kept while needed to resolve your request and for any applicable legal obligations.
Your privacy rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, erase or obtain a copy of your information, restrict or object to its use, and withdraw consent. Contact support@tandemtrails.app to make a request. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/ or your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
We will update this document when the app's data handling changes. The date above identifies this version. The same policy will be available at https://tandemtrails.app/privacy.
